Confusing Ford 460

Have a 86 Ford 350 van with a 460ci carbed engine.8 out 10 times going up hills I hear a tapping noise, going on level road no tapping. Was told it could be a lifter (changed them about 20,000 miles ago with new milen), also told it could be a exhaust manifold leak ( say they sound the same). I think it could even be low octane gas (at this price use the lowest). any suggestions on have narrow it down . Thanks

I'd try some high test gas first. If that fixes it and you don't want to continue using high test - adjust your timing a little.

if you only hear it going up a hill most likely spark knock, if so either more octane, reset the timeing, or water injection, will fix,
did that model come out with a knock sensor?
might check autozone.com for that answer.
sometimes sitting still and power braking will let you check for spark nock.

if we're not supposed to eat animals why are they made out of meat?
