1997 nissan maxima a/c recharge
Hello all!
My brothers a/c was working fine until today! All of a sudden it started blowing hot air. Now the compressor was turning on but the air was still cold. I pressed the valve to see if the system had air and there was. Then I demonstrated how I checked the system by releasing more air then the compressor stopped turning on. I bought a bottle of the legal freon and connected a wire to the battery to activate the compressor and it worked and the system accepted the freon. However the compressor does not stay on by itself now. Does the system need more freon or what can I do?

you need a guage to see if you have the proper pressure. adding freon with out checking pressures can cause massive damage to the system.
releasing freon just to see if it has pressure was not a good move.
check the fuses also.

thank you speedswrench. I did check the system with a pressure gauge and the system is filled to a normal capacity. However the compressor is not activating alone unless I connect a wire to the compressor from any power source any idea?thanks ahead kind friend.

What was the pressure reading?
You need a manifold pressure test gauge and the compressor needs to be running.
So many things it can be......I would pay to have it diagnosed because you could end up spending alot of money changing parts.
