why did dealer do this?

I have a 2005 Toyota Highlander that I bought 1 year ago as a certified used car, I also bought a 3rd party warranty thru them.
Last Fri car would not start no engine crank at all just lights on dash but no starter click or noise.
I called dealer and they said have it towed to there place and they gave me the tow truck company they use. Sat afternoon it was put on a large flatbed and hauled off to the dealer 12 miles.
Yesterday dealer called and said come and get it all done so I asked what the problem was and if it was a warranty item.
He said that previous owner had installed a kill switch under dash. His tech had a hard time finding it but he did.
Now the good part He said no charge. Now my question is why would the dealer foot the bill for the fix and the tow?
I am going to write a letter to the dealers manager and tell him what great serive they have. Also he did not contact the warranty people so they did not pay.

MV, don't get yer guy in trouble! Be non-specific, just say how much you appreciate your service.

I've seen good guys get fired for being "too nice" to customers.

Yes, they should have known and told you, but the service guy could have told you a story and charged you and sent you home with a bill.

Treat him nice, he's a keeper.

Well, you bought the vehicle through them, so everything that came with that, is there responsibility.

thats true

I have bought several cars from this dealer but this is a first. I will be carefull not to get the service manager in trouble when I write the Dealers owner.
This car dealership has all kinds of good deals like every sat they have a cookout so if you go there you can get a free lunch to boot. I am sure that they have some horror stories and yes they try to sell you high priced nice to have service but on the whole they are great but I still dont buy all the services they try to sell.

Each good turn deserves another

Wow
Got an address of this manager.
I want to be friends.
In these days of poor customer service, it sounds like he is drumming up business by doing service.
If I were treated like that I would mention it to my Friends and tell them if they go, to say that Frank sent them.
