OBD port location 2000 Mazda Protege

I've ordered a ScanGauge to give me real-time mpg readings while I drive. But I can't find the OBD2 port under the dash.

Can someone point me to exactly where that port is under the dash (not in the engine bay)? I'm assuming it's a 16 pin connector ... but don't really have a clue!

OBD2 guidelines require the scan connector to be in the passenger compartment, so close the hood , and dont think about that again....

Usually under the drivers side dash, But I have seen them behind the ashtray, or even in the glove box. Yes it is a 16 pin connector.....sort of a rectangle with one of the longer sides shorter than the other......(Trapezoid....maybe Rhombus?????? Geometry wasnt my thing, so I'll just call it a crooked rectangle..)
