Is your compressor kicking in and cycling when you turn on the ac with the motor running? Did the belt just break or did it squeal and burn off?

Blackie:

That's a pretty good indication the compressor locked up and burned the belt off. I suspect your compressor is shot and will have to be replaced.

Second that, but probably worth a look to make sure the broken belt didn't take out wiring to the compressor.

With these type of failures I never know
-if it was a coincidence that these two things happened, one after the other,
-or somehow the broken belt caused to compressor to then seize,
-or somehow the working belt was holding together a compressor that was ready to fail, and so this was a cascading failure (belt and compressor).

my 2 cents

I am thinking the compressor locked up and that is when the belt broke.I have seen that happen and it gave no warning. Can you turn the compressor by hand with no belt?
