1993 Ford escort check engine light codes

Hello, I have a 1993 Ford escort, with 52,000 miles on it. It idles fine, acceleration is good. Just running around town, the check engine light will go on and off. At highway speeds, it will stay on. Between 50 and 60 miles an hour, at cruising speed, it seems to stutter somewhat. But, pressing on the accelerator stops it from stuttering. It seems to run fine between 65 than 70 miles an hour. I'm getting about 32 miles per gallon, which is not quite as good as my old 93 wagon which was totaled a couple of weeks ago by some jerk who rear ended me. Anyways, here are the check engine codes that I have.

1111111181186181186

If someone could point me in the correct direction I would really appreciate it. Thanks! Mark

181 Fuel system was lean at part throttle Single, Right or Rear HO2S - Fuel control

186 Injector pulse width longer than expected or Mass Air Flow (MAF) lower than expected - Fuel control

Think I would try cleaning the MAF sensor just as a quicky possible fix, but be careful and use the proper cleaner as the sensor is a bit delicate.

I'll go with Tow's vision of what the codes are.........But the first thing I'd belookin at would be the PCV tube........The elbow where it connects to the manifold has a nasty reputation (well earned) for collapsing and splitting.......Will give you a whole boatload of fuel codes

Sure enough! That did it! Thanks guys!

I pulled off the MAF sensor cleaned it with a Q-tip and alcohol and put it back on and no more problems! And, it's not like it was really dirty, but it did have some dust or dirt on it. I don't think I would have thought much about it if I had just taken it off and looked at it.

Thanks again!

Hi

I'm thinking the MAF on my 2003 Ford Escort ZX2 is a problem for me too. I got a P0171 diagnostic code.

I was wondering if anybody knows where to find a diagram of where teh MAF sensor is in the Escort?

I've looked all around the internet and can't find anything.

Any instructions would be helpful too!

It'll be in the intake ducting somewhere between the air cleaner and the throttle plate. Look for the electrical connector.

171 is an oxygen sensor code, though:

171 Oxygen sensor not switching - system was at adaptive limits - Single, Right or Rear HO2S - Fuel control
