swaped engines-runs rough-maybe E.C.M. issues?
i just bought a 1991 ford explorer 4wd 4.0L automatic trans. A few days later it blew the head gasket while a "friend" was borrowing it for the day. she just wanted to get home, so she surely cracked the whole damned head. So i have since bought a 1994 4.0 engine, and paid a mechanic to install it. It does not idle well, nor run at lower speeds.
iwas wodering if the computer needs to be reprogrammed to my mileage/dash. or are there any known conflicts i might need to be aware?
thanks guys!

There is a BIG difference in computers between those 2 applications......And the ECM's were not programmable back then.......
It has only been in the last 10 or 12 years that Engine controls have been Programmed to a specific vehicle......Any discrepancy requires the use of the Applications ECM....
Any Check Engine Light?......

there is, essentially, always a check engine light, only it takes almost 10 minutes to appear! the newer engine ('94) is in my '91 body, now. it does not idle well, and there is absolutely no power. gutless. should i try to obtain the brain originally to this engine? oh, and if the answer to that is yes, do i need to have it's own, original dash so its mileages match up?
