This car does not shift into gear smoothly. Is there any adjustment in the shifting linkage that can be made to correct the problem? Is there a special procedure for bleeding the hydraulic system that actuates? This car has 120,000 miles it and I am not sure that the clutch has ever been replaced. What do you think the chances are of the problem being related to a bad clutch?

Hi Wire Twister,
Thanks for your response.
This car has not shifted smoothly into first gear for several thousand miles (20,000 est) It does not grind when shifting into any of the gears. It "feels" like something is hanging up in the shifting linkage, keeping it from working smoothly. Just today, the problem has gotten worse. I am now having difficulty shifting into higher gears.
Let me know what you think and other questions you may have.

Sounds to me like the pilot bearing/bushing could be the problem. When it is worn or bad the clutch disc will drag on the pressure plate/flywheel making it hard to get in gear.

Saturn SL2 5 Speed - Not Shifting Properly
Wire Twister,
Good point on the pilot bearing/bushing. Of course that means a lot of work to find out for sure on that one. And that very well may be the problem.
What are your thoughts about the hydraulic system that actuates the clutch. Is it possible that it is not working properly and is not seperating the disc from the plate enough? Could it be that the system needs bleeding? If so, is there a bleeder valve somewhere in the system that you know of?
