ford has a bad habit of useing fusible links to protect some systems, look under the hood for a short wire comeing from the battery or starter solinoid and give it a tug if it streches it is bad.

Contact your Local ford dealership.....
I dont know if the escort was included, but there was a Massive recall for Ignition switches catching Fire. The Terminal that feeds the wipers also feeds AC function and Rear defroster.......At least take the column covers down and look at the harnesses

WOT usually refers to Wide Open Throttle. It kicks your a/c out for the added horsepower when hammering the throttle to pass or whatever. Some 4 cyl engines were noticeably sluggish with a/c on, and tended to get some people unexpectedly in trouble trying to pass, thus, this was, I believe, incorporated to help with that.

Would that Ignition lead be a black/w red stirpe? This wire is showing no voltage in the on or off position. The rest of the wires/terminals are working. My Haynes manual is very limited on diargams

There is another post somewhere on this forum where the issue was very much the same (wiper and AC are tied into the same relay) and the guy was able to isolate what it was. Check out all other post on this site and you'll come across it.

The Fix
Here is the fix
Replaced the ignition switch and everything works great.
Ingnition 2 was burnt in the switch so no power was going into wipers, washers, rear defrost or AC/heater blower
$40.00 part, 15 minutes work ( I've replaced 1 before)
Thank for all the hints
