2003 cavalier speedometer

I have a 2003 cavalier, 5 speed manual. The speedometer works while the car is cold but eventually it drops down to 0mph after about 10 minutes or so. Do I need a new cable or is it possibly loose....is it an easy access to get to?

Does your cruise control work properly? The reason I ask this is because the speed sensor (VSS) controls the cruise control, speedometer, shifting, etc. If this was bad, the you would probably be having issues elsewhere as well.

This leads me to think your speedometer cluster itself needs to be replaced, or repaired.

Mark didn't come right out and say it, but you probably don't have a cable. Most cars nowadays have electronic speedo's.
