Coolant temp Sensor location?

Have 2002 V6 Mustang and got a code for coolant temp sensor (read at Autozone). Can someone point me to where the sensor is located? It is not on the intake near the thermostat housing. I believe I see a sensor located behind the power steering pump mounting bracket. Is that it? And how do you get to it?

Car is not overheating and no apparent leaks of coolant.

Thanks,

Tony

Not sure how much the 3.8 has changed over the years on the Stang, but here it is for a late 90's model.

Under hood, center, front engine area, driver side of water outlet base, mounted on cooling system air purge port.

Mark, thanks, but it is not topside from what I can see. I got to get my hands on a shop manual or a cheepo Chiltons. I'll get under the car tomorrow and see if it what I see behind the power steering mounting bracket.

Well I'm not sure where it would be as I'm not familiar with the car, if it's not screwed into water jackets in the intake I would check the block next.

One suggestion I've got is to search for a mustang forum. I know there are plenty out there for late model mustangs (hard to find knowledgeable ones on the older ones when I had mine), I've joined forums for specific types of vehicles I have and they are a great source for vehicle specific questions like this.

Thanks, that's a good idea. I will check out the Mustang forums.

The sensor behind the p/s is the oil sending unit.

The ect sould be in the intake manifold. The car also has a cylinderhead temp sensor, sould be at back of one of the heads.

Thanks for all the help. It is at the back of the driver's side head.
