New Toy

I have acquired a new project car, it is an 80 Chevrolet El Camino, a fairly solid car to start with. Bought it just as the previous owner was begining a restoration. Engine is thrashed rest of running gear is good. Basically a blank slate, thinking of putting a 6.0 truck engine and a 4L80E or 700r4 trans with a 3.42 0r 3.55 final drive. What do you guys think? Any ideas/opinions?

Well, I can comment on the 4L80E; it's what's in my wrecker and is pretty much bullet-proof. Beer 4U2

sounds like a good choice to me assuming you can handle the proper computer hook ups to get the performance with fuel inj and trans shifts. and judging from your posts that should not be a problem other than time and $$
