1996 Ford Contour

For a while....like6 months....I have been getting an intermittent Check Engine light. It comes on , stays on for 2 to 4 days. Then just goes out. Stays out for a few days or a few weeks. Repeat!

Car is low mileage for age...70K. I drive just 4 miles each way to work, almost never have this car on the freeways.

I don't seem to notice any driveability problems, except it idles rough, but I think it has always done that. Gas mileage stinks....16 to 20 mpg.


Many years ago, we had check engine problems. I think over a period of time we had O2 sensors and cat. converters replaced. Problem went away for a long time.

 

Have Autozone scan for trouble codes for free. There should be some stored if the light has been coming on. Report back here with the code.
