98 Malibu Serpentine Belt Question

I just put a new serpentine belt on my 98 malibu. The tensioner pulley had locked up so I put a new one on. Then I put the belt on (not an easy task). The problem is that now the belt is rubbing against the tensioner itself. It's as though the tensioner didn't spring back after I got it on the final pulley. I am at a loss. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

double check that the belt is fully in all of the groves on the groved pullys, it is very easy to git it over one grove with out noticing on a lot of vehicles. that will cause your problem.

I did check all of the grooves, and the belt was sitting the way it should on all of the pulleys. I guess it's possible that they gave me the wrong pulley.

Did you replace the tensioner, or just the pulley? There is a locator pin on the back side of the tensioner. That needs to fit in the hole in the front cover. If not, then disregard. It might be possible that either the pulley is the wrong diameter, or the belt is a hair too short.
