Need help getting truck ready for storage.........

Just bought a new truck, kept my older truck to drive in the winter. Live in NY so I really don't want to drive the new truck in all the salt. Don't have a garage yet so I'm going to have to store the new truck outside next to the house. There is grass a long side of the house, should I put a tarp or ply wood on grass before parking the truck there for the winter? Is it better to cover truck with something, or just leave the snow cover it? Should I put something a round the tires so the snow dosen't blow through the rims and onto the brakes, or ply wood against them? Just want to be sure that under frame doesn't rot or anything siezes while it is stored there. Any ideas would be a great help, I never did this before, Thanks...

Storing truck

How about renting a storage unit to put the truck in? The most important thing is to put fuel stabilizer in the tank. I would also start it at least once a month and run it for 30 min. RW

if you keep it outside and covered you are asking for the possiblities of rodents finding a nice place to stay for the winter I have seen a lot of dead mice, rats and quite a few nest in air filter boxes as well as in the heater boxes and the smell was very bad,it would be a shame to have a nice new truck that smells like rat urine.

i agree i have seen many many cars here in wisconsin stored for winter (one was a 69 firebird all original) i don;t know what he was thinking storing it outside. But mice found a home and he spend thousnads having the interior ripped out and cleaned along with the entire hvac system, and not to mention all the wires that were chewed though. But if it is outside keep it as dry as possible, use stabil and make sure you start and run it to operating temp at least once a week to keep your seals from drying and your battery from frezzing. It wouldn't hurt to drive ounce and a while to throw some gear lube around and stop the brakes from rusting into noise making machines
