Mazda 626 2000-engine temperature

Hello anybody who can help me,

After a one mile drive engine temperature gauge goes up to the end of scale. Oil level checked and is O.K.
Could be thermostat or coolant pump failed?
Thanks for help in advance.

mostlikely if the engine is full of coolant you have either a bad temp sending unit or bad thermostat, does the engine spew coolant into the overflow when you shut it down?

life begins when the kids leave home and the dog dies

Is the car's coolant actually hot? is the engine really hot after a mile? if your car is getting too hot you can sometimes sense it just by lifting up the hood.

How warm are both upper and lower radiator hoses to the touch? One hot and the other one much cooler could equal thermostat not opening.

I would think you have a bad sensor--I think it should take more than one mile to get the coolant inside the engine warm enough to cause a good thermostat to begin to open.

For Cbuddy2005

Q. Is the car's coolant actually hot? is the engine really hot after a mile?

A. No, coolant is just warm. Today gauge went to its limit after 3 miles drive, but engine is not extremely hot. I can touch its block.

Q. "How warm are both upper and lower radiator hoses to the touch? One hot and the other one much cooler could equal thermostat not opening".

A. Upper hose is very hot and lower is a little warm.

For Speedwrench

Q. ...does the engine spew coolant into the overflow when you shut it down?

A. No it does not, but overflow is full of bubbles as if the coolant is mixed with soap and its color is kind of brown...

Thanks.
