Question 1999 Jeep electrical problem

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a brake light problem. Both brake lights come on when I step on the brake but the drivers side is very dim. It is 1/2 or less of the brillance of the right side light. I have replace the bulbs, cleaned the bulb contacts, and checked all of the lighting wiring that is accessable without finding the problem. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The light itself seems to have a bad grounding problem. Pull the lens assembly out and inspect the connections carefully for corrosion. How did the socket look?

Question

Do the turn signals and the flashers work correctly? They use the same element! May be a silly question, but I HAVE SEEN people install the bulb incorrectly using the tail light element for the brake. Is the tail light BRIGHTER than the other side?

I know they are not SUPPOSED to be able to be installed wrong, HOWEVER------!!!
