1999 Honda Accord New Key reprogramming

I have a 1999 Honda accord. My wife wanted an extra key while out of state and had one made. When she returned with the car my key no longer worked. We are now in the same boat with only 2 working keys. All of them will open the doors but only 2 will start the engine due to the security feature.

Can I reprogram this third key to be accepted myself, or do I need the help of a dealership or a regular mechanic? I don't know if this has PATS 1 or PATS 2 (found out about them through research).

Need a dealer to do that. Get ready to fork out money too, they will prolly charge you their hourly mechanic fee, about $80. They need to hook up their Honda scan tool to program it. Call a local Honda service dept.

Gotcha. Thanks, man. I'll try and get the dealerships to talk since I paid for it once, but I understand if I have to do it 2x.

You will need to take all of the keys with you.
