2005 toyota sequoia Rear taildgate door will not open
The rear door on a 2005 toyota sequoia will not open with the latch. When the unlock button inside or on the key bob is pressed I can hear a click and then if I press down on the tail gate door I hear a click, so I believe it is unlocking and locking but it will not open. Is there a manual override lever. The latch will not open the door

Similar problem with my SUV, turned out a rod inside had come loose. Solenoid worked, but since the rod was off, wouldn't unlatch. May be different with yours. Try the key on the hatch if you have one, I know some newer vehicles don't (crazy design).
May also be a connecting rod from the handle to the latch.

Friends older 4Runner had a similar problem. Turned out to be the latch mechanism was severely rusted and frozen. Had to disassemble the inner panel while the hatch was closed to remove the latch.
