if the new pad is doing the same thing try electrical contact cleaner, might be a bad conenctor.

is this the original number the car came with you may be able to reprogram not using those numbers. just an idea.

Hopefully this helps you guys out.

1994 Mercury Sable Owner's manual states:

Programming your own Keyless Entry Pad code:
1. Select 5 digits for your personal code.
2. Enter the Factory Code (usually on trunk lid of sedans)
3. Within 5 seconds, press 1/2
4. Within 5 seconds of pressing 1/2, enter your personal code, pressing each digit within 5 seconds of the previous digit.

The keyless system registers this second code. To open your vehicle, you can now use either code. The module remembers only one personal code at a time. Entering a second personal code will erase the first, replacing it with the new second one.

To deactivate the AUTOLOCK system:
1. Enter your factory 5 digit code(not the personal code you just set)
2. Within 5 secconds press and hold 7/8
3. Within 5 more seconds press and release 3/4
4. Release 7/8

To reactivate AUTOLOCK:
Follow the deactivation instructions
