2001 Chevy Impala - A/C-Heater motor?

Hello all,

My air and heater motor do not work on settings 1-3, and then work when turned to 4, always. I would assume it s a motor problem but may be very wrong. I want to be able to fix this myself, so if anyone can lead me in the right direction with what part, or how to tell what is actually wrong. Thanks everybody.

Possible faulty resistor; it is what controls the amount of voltage that reaches the motor and determines the speed.

resistor

I am not by my car so I ask "is this something the owners manual can tell me how to replace"? Is the resistor inexpensive enough for it not matter if I fix it and it doesn't solve the problem.

My Mitsu same as your Impala?

Thanks TTG... I have a similar problem. My Mitsu Lancer 04 started spitting out water under the passenger side dash last summer while my AC was running and then about 2 months later the blower stopped working on "1-3" (correlation?) but still has normal/optimal functioning (no decrease in heat or blowing capacity) while on setting "4"--same as the Impala.

FYI: I also read on a different post on DoItYourself.com, that it may be a faulty Blower Motor Resistor?

Blower Motor Resistor

So the question becomes, where would I find out how to replace my blower motor resistor? My owners manual seemed to be no help. Is their a website like this that might have a tutorial. I will also google it and let everybody know what I find.
