94 Chevy diesel 6.5 ltr. manual xmission

All of a sudden, while doing 45mph, shifted into overdrive gear and nothing happened. It acted as though I had the clutch depressed. There was no noise, grinding or anything else. All other gears work fine. The truck is a 4x4. The manual I have just tells me how to remove and install the transmission.

Is there a linkage from the gearshift to the transmission specifically for the 5th gear that could be the problem? Are there any records of common problems on this particular model? Not sure what to do first.

Thank you for your input.

no the linkage is internal to the transmission and not accessable with out seperating the transmission. you most likely have lost a pin on a shift fork or pin in the shifter.

how come common sense isn't common?
