Question blower not blowing very hard

I have a 1990 olds cutlass calais for some reason the blower moter doesn't seem to blow real hard. It does blow at different speeds when i move the switch from low to high. The motor and basket on the motor was replaced before and nothing happened its still doing the same thing. This past summer it does the same thing with the air on. It barely blows out the vents. I can hear the blower blowing hard but nothing. Have any suggestions?????

Blower problem

Have you checked the interior compartment air filter, usually located under the hood just below the windshield on passenger side, need to carefully pull plastic clips up that holdthe cover down, if the filter is full it may restrain/block the amount of air that can get through.

I just had the same problem with my Monte Carlo--plugged solid and reduced the air flow- Yes, it should sit right above the blower--plastic is brittle right now so if you have a garage let the car heat up or you may break the plastic!

blower motor

Randy I finally cleaned out the garage and got the car in. I pulled the cover off by the wind shield like you said but no filter there. So i pulled out the blower motor and inside i found massive amount of dirt and stuff in front of the heater core so i took a wire brush to it the best i could thru the blower motor hole and bingo i'm getting alot better air flow now. One question Though, in the blower motor housing there is a hole in it at the bottom against the fire wall at the end that i can't reach from the interior of the housing or the exterior, will this effect the air flow over the heater core because the airflow possibly can leak out the hole. Hole about the size of a half dollar.

Hi,
On top of the motor was there an indentation like there should be a filter,as sometimes people do not replace the filter because of the cost 29bucks+ tax in Canada. Usually the hole is drainage but there is usually a rubber hose going from the motor to the firewall. Must not have been replaced when the compartment filter wasn't replaced?
You can rig a new one but I wouldn't as it's hard to get to and the fan is doing it's job for a 19 yr old car!

a 1990 Calais wouldn't have a cabin air filter...They really weren't used up until 2002ish...

I am not wanting to steal your post but our '99 dodge durango is having the same problem. I just did a little updating, new plugs and wires, and flushed the coolant system. It does heat up faster and what not but it didn't make it blow out any faster. Good Luck

Hi,
I kinda thought it did not have a compartment filter but it was good for a look, as for the hole in the motor housing? Usually drainage but where? on the floor of the car? or out a pipe to the exterior.

The hole in the motor housing should have a rubber pipe init that hooked it to a nipple on the heater plenum right at the fan outlet, air blows thru the blower motor to cool/clean the motor brushes.

Looks like you have to buy a pipe if they sell just the pipe or go without as you have for how long?. When I changed my resistor and fan, the pipe came with the fan but if you do not have a pipe??It has a nipple at each side! and is formed.

blower

Randy There is a rubber hose at the bottom of the blower motor but did not follow where it went to the firewall will check that later. As for the hole it is in the, it is hard to explain. The motor bolts to the housing it is the long thing that it bolts too at the far end away from the moter it is rusted thru. My brother in law had the car before me and it was rusted there before so he put tape on the other hole. I just can't get my hand in there wear it is rusted out now. Will it cause any harm or do i just have to keep cleaning out the heater core vents when it gets dirty because thats why i wasn't getting good blower flow.

Duct tape does wonders on everthing if you can get to the wall. The main thing is that the fan is now blowing doesn't have to be perfect.
