Battery recharging - acceptable voltage range
Hi,
We have a dead car battery in our Toyota Yaris. Before we fork out 25 euro on a car battery charger, I thought it might be worth trying one of 2 other battery chargers we have :
- 12 volts DC, 4 amps
- 13.6-14.6 volts DC, 600 milli-amps ( SYEN srl Elettronica - the CBO1 ) - the crocodile clips will just about fit on to the positive terminal
Would either of these be safe and suitable to use? AFAIK, normal voltage for a car battery charger is about 14V, but might 12 V be adequate? On the other hand, if I used the CB01 : I guess a current of 600 mA means it would take a lot longer to charge - but other than that would it be OK?

The 12v DC/4amp model would be better, but would take a really long time. Normally, a 10amp charger would take hours to fully charge a 12v automotive battery.
