have you used a test light to check the power into the converter? here is a web site which has a lot of good info on wiring trailers.
How to Wire your Car or Truck for Trailer Lights
if you have power into the convertor but not out then yes it is the convertor.

the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.

Are the brake light bulbs also used for the turn signals? If so, if the turns still work, probably converter: if not, check the bulbs and sockets.

most likely under the bed at the rear of the truck, probably plugged into the vehicle wiring harness at the bumper.
