1999 Chev Blazer 2WD Transmission problem
Just wondering what could cause this problem, other than a bad transmission if anything.
Daughter lost 2nd and reverse, all other gears seem to operate okay. Could a stuck valve in the valve body cause this or is it time for a tranny overhaul???
Thanks,

if i remember correctly the trans has a electronic control for the valves, could be stuck valve or bad trans, take it into a reputable trans shop to see if codes could be read or not.

Yes, it is a 4L60E tranny. I haven't pulled the codes yet, but the check engine light did come on. So I'm hopeing the codes will give me some indication of what is wrong with the tranny. I was told there are some solenoids inside that may have gone bad and could be replaced.
If possible, I could drop the pan and do the repairs myself if that is all it is. I have pulled valve bodies out of other tranny's and got them to work before, so have some experience. Just haven't worked on one for a while or this type, so looking for suggestions of what I can do....prior to takeing it to a shop.
The fluid is still pink and doesn't smell burnt, so that was a good thing.
The son inlaw is supposed to take it down and have the codes pulled today or tomorrow, so should have a little more info than.
Thanks again.

solenoids are possible but there is a 1-2 shift solenoid, 2-3 , torque convertor and pressure control, there isn;t a solenoid for reverse, u may have a valve body issue, i would pull the pan and look for metal debri . also what are the odds of two solenoids going bad at the same time

Ok, pulled the pan today. No signs of anything abnormal in the pan, oil looks good, doesn't smell burnt. Checked the solenoids and both of them clicked. Had the codes pulled early and had gotten PO751, so owner wanted to replace the solenoid any how, so replaced it. Wires looked good, no visual signs of damage.
Put it all back together and still missing reverse and second!!!
If you have the pan pulled can you put vehicle in second and read the voltage on the plug going to solenoid? Would really like to try to figure this out on our own. Any helpful checks would be appreciated.
Thanks again.

If you are missing reverse on a 4L60E, it has to come out. There is nothing in the valve body or solenoids that is going to cause the problem you are having.
My best guess if the fluid isn't burnt is that you probably have a stripped sun shell.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Thanks, D Rentals. I really have been fighting the thought of having to pull the thing. Not that it is that big of a deal, was just hoping there was an in-vehicle repair that could be made. Well, guess I will break the bad news to the son-in-law and see when he wants to get dirty!
