2000 toyota rav 4 problem

2000 toyota rav 4 problem

lately when I turn the ignition key the red light on the dash come on, then when I turn the key full to start the ignition all the power goes off? then i open the hood tap the littlefuse box next to the positive battery cable and I get power back.then turn the car over. then when I brake and the anti lock brakes kick in the head lights dim low and once my car stalled. any ideas?

I would start with a thorough cleaning of battery terminals and check for loose connections.

What you have in the "fuse box" is cable to metal plate junction. Red is positive. Toyota decided to have additional connections between main cable and terminal. Of course, anywhere you have electrical connections, it starts oxidizing.
Basically, what you want to do, is to disassemble that box and connections inside of it, clean them well, down to shiny metal, lubricate everything with dielectric grease, and put back together. Of course, clean battery poles and pole terminals too, and lubricate them.
