reading codes on OBD1 Sentra

I've searched high and low and i'm looking
for an easy way out. i need to pull the codes from
my 94 nissan sentra. i know you can pull the ecu and
get the led's to flash but, right now we are in a deep freeze
here in the NE. I've heard people talking about using a paper clip to pull the codes.

anyone have the steps to do this.
thanks
bryan

ok i broke down and read the codes.
it came up 32 egr function. i failed my state emissions with a double allowed NOX reading. I checked for rotted hoses to the egr but all were fine.
i have an haynes manual which does a bad job of telling how to replace the egr or even clean it.

does anyone have some good steps with step by step pictures.
i tried autozone but even they were not very involved.
sorry for all the questions i'm nervous about doing.

Nope...............................................
But here's the factory service manual. You will have to download each file. Each file is a separate system. The IDX.pdf is the index.

Index of /FSM/Nissan/Sentra/1994

Normally they group it all into one file, but anyways.
