Replacing Multifunction Turn Signal Lever 1999 Buick Century
My 99 Buick Century high beam switch thru the turn signal lever no longer works.
How do I replace that Multifunction lever? Do I have to take the steering wheel off?
Thanks

wire twister - it's a push for highs
Turbojohn - GM's service info wants the steering wheel removed. But that switch can be changed without removing the wheel. After you get the steering column upper and lower covers off there will be 2 torx screws holding the switch in place. And you can get those screws out with a torx bit and a 1/4 inch wrench on the bit.

You pull it towards you for high beam. It slowly got harder and harder to get the high beams to come on when pulling it, and now it's stuck on high.

After looking at advance auto web site I am inclined to agree with stingray. The switch is quite expensive from advance, hope you can find it cheaper elsewhere. just be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable when working near steering column to prevent accidential air bag deployment.

Of course Ebay has some priced way lower than OEM. I just need to know how to get it off. I have the plastic off and can see the screw (torx) but can't get a straight shot at it because the steering wheel is in the way.

That's where you use the Torx bit from a bit driver set and the 1/4 inch wrench. Hold the bit in the screw with the tip of your finger and turn it with the wrench.
