rebuilding rear pinions

If you want to rebuild a rear end on a mid 90 s pick up truck, 150, and others, roughly how much will you so spend on a quality after market kit
with new gears ,bearings etc and can anyone link to a free video of the complete process on a typical truck..... for a first timer and not speeded up so much thats its worthless....or has a bunch of stupid music that does nothing but distract from it.

you might want to leave this for a pro there are a number of special tools that are needed to do the job correctly.

sorry this job requires several specality tools, not something you can learn about from watching a video. the process requires a press and both a dial type inch lb torque wrench as well as bearing pullers with bearing separators. dial indicators, a torque wrench to about 250 ft lbs. and occasionaly a differential seperator to spread the housing so you can install the third member.

Ditto

Ditto to the above many things involved backlash, shims , preloads etc. Not eeally a DIY prodject unless you have thousands of dollars worth of special tools.

tearing it apart will not teach you the proper way to put it back together, a good shop manual will help to point you in the correct direction, but it still takes the proper tools to do it correctly. and tv doesn't show all of the steps used in repairing or rebuilding vehicles they just don't have time.
