2001 Isuzu Rodeo

I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo and the air went out about a year ago. It only cools/heats when I am going over 55 mph. I don't really mind, but am having a baby in May and don't want it to have a heat stroke or freeze in the winter. I replaced the refridgerant with no result and am scared to take it to a repair shop because I don't want to pay an arm and a leg. Is there anything I can do myself to fix this??

Sounds like a bad thermostat or cooling fans are not coming on. If you vehicle gets over a certain temp, it will shut the A/C off.

Do you hear the a/c compressor click on when you select it?
