Get codes from GM OBDI without the ground
I have a 92 Lesabre
Emision sticker under hood says 93 year
Ownership says 92
Drive door pillar unreadable
VIN 8th digit is "L"
10th is "N"
11th is"H"
It is with the latter model of OBD 1
The OBD 1 does not have the ground wire to jump it with the paper clip.
Now I want to get a code reader and I am wondering if the OBDII will read that OBD I that has no ground.
Also is there a way I can get the codes without the reader?
I live in Canada and there is no where I can get the codes checked for free.
Costs $59 just to hook up the code reader at the shop and I think I would rather buy a code reader for that money.
Thanks

It's a '92 by the vin. There's no ground terminal in the test plug? That's a little strange. I don't think an OBD-II reader will work; different plugs. I'm wondering what would happen if you jumpered the test terminal to another ground, i.e. body metal, but that is NOT a suggestion OR recommendation to try it. Might have to try that on my truck. Never did it on a 92 but on the earlier models, even the ones with the ground in the plug, used to use a 12 volt test light grounded to door hinge or other ground to get codes. Worked back then.

If there is no ground in the DLC, then someone removed it. BTW, You can use almost any metal surface as a ground, it does not have to be at the DLC.
AN OBDII code reader will not work for you. OBDII uses a 16 pin connector, and the OBDI is a 12 pin.

"NOTE: Some 94 & 95 models do not have the B terminal. In which case a scanner is required."
From the link provided in the original post
The B terminal is the ground (which is not there)
I did think of grounding out the A terminal on the chassis ground but value the car too much
So I wonder how the code reader gets the codes??
