found this

Model Affected
2000 MERCURY SABLE

Description
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, KENTUCKY, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS COULD FRACTURE DUE TO CORROSION ASSOCIATED WITH SALT USED ON THE ROADWAYS DURING THE WINTER. A FRACTURED SPRING COULD MOVE PAST THE SPRING SEAT AND CONTACT A FRONT TIRE.

Consequence
IF THIS OCCURS, THE TIRE MAY RUPTURE RESULTING IN A RAPID AIR LOSS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL PROTECTIVE SPRING SHIELDS. IN ADDITION, FORD IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY COVERAGE OF THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS IN ALL OTHER STATES, FOR FRACTURE ONLY, UP TO 10 YEARS OF SERVICE OR 150,000 MILES, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. IF THE VEHICLE HAS ALREADY ACCUMULATED MORE THAN 150,000 MILES, THIS COVERAGE WILL LAST UNTIL JULY 31, 2005. IF EITHER FRONT COIL SPRING FRACTURES, DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH FRONT SPRINGS AT NO CHARGE TO THE OWNER. AN INTERIM NOTICE WAS SENT TO OWNERS ON AUGUST 2, 2004. PARTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR THE 2000-2001 MY VEHICLES AND OWNERS WERE SENT A LETTER ON JANUARY 10, 2005, ADVISING THEM TO BRING IN THEIR VEHICLES FOR REPAIR PARTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE AVAILABLE FOR THE 1999 MY VEHICLES BY THE END OF FEBRUARY 2005 AND OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES WILL BE NOTIFIED THEN. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.

Essentially, only the models in the Rust Belt are covered, making cars from Wisconsin prime candidates.

make sure to file a complaint with the nhtsa.
i would have it done by the dealer and save your receipt because
ford won't be able to deny there's a problem much longer.
i had my front and rear break but was not covered by recall (rhode island) lol no salt here.

depending on how many miles on the car ford will only cover
upto 75g miles after that your on your own dime.

your front springs would be covered under a customer satisfaction program from ford for 10 years and up to 150000 miles regardless of which state you live in,the rears however are not.

greg you maybe wrong or my dealer was wrong they said only
75g. do you have a program code for this.

i had it done and 6 bills out of pocket from ford dealer, i would imagine they would know of it. it was well under the 150g.

Can't get all the info off Alldata of course, but here are the Recall numbers for a 2000 Sable. Automotive Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins for 2000 Mercury Sable V6-3.0L DOHC VIN S. Provided by ALLDATA

04S17S3 APR 05 Recall - Front Coil Spring Protective Shield

04M04S1 APR 05 Campaign - Front Coil Spring Extended Warranty

Better get in to the dealer quick...before Ford has no money to pay for anything.

i find it hard to believe the campaign would change and the dealer did not know, either way they would the money.

well paid a visit to my dealer and as i knew i was told
the campaign does not cover my car and they only know of 75g.
they simply input vin and the oasis report list any open campaigns the only one mine had was for an egr valve.

so for now i hope everyone reports their broken springs and make ford do the right thing.
