95 chevy s10 4cyl 5 spd

the heater core went out a couple of days ago, and i would add water every morning. this morning i forgot to add water and it overheated. the truck lost power and i had to coast into a gas station. i let it cool down and added water, then checked the oil. the dipstick was dry, the oil change was due but not overdue. i added oil and bypassed the heater core, and the truck wont start. the engine is turning but not catching. could this be a timming chain or a cracked head issue. if it is how can i check. thanks for your help!!!

First things first and easy things first, check your cylinder compression and go from there.
