2000 elantra tranny problem?

Today my daughter's 2000 Hyundai Elantra began having a problem. It's an automatic transmission, and it starts out driving normally at low speed. When you get it up to around 40 or 45 mph, the tranny doesn't shift and the rpm's stay at a high level. In other words, it doesn't downshift so the rpm's don't drop. It runs at about 3200 rpm at highway speed, when normally it's closer to 2200. I checked the fluid and it looks ok (color and quantity). Any ideas?

Did she accidently press the overdrive (O/D) button? Sounds like it's not going into overdrive.

Thanks for the reply. But no, that was my first thought too. I checked it as soon as she told me about the problem and the O/D button wasn't off. I drove it and pushed the O/D button a couple times while I was driving to see if I could break something loose, but no dice. It just revs high and doesn't go down.
Are you thinking tranny problem or something else?
