99 jimmy fuel pump question

I have a 1999 GMC Jimmy (4.3L Vortec) with about 125,000 miles on it.

I just had a fuel pump replaced (pricey part!!!). The car has always run fine since I bought it with 25,000 miles on it.

With the new fuel pump it has a lot more response and power. It has always seemed a little slower than my wife's almost identical car - a 2000 Blazer with the same engine. Now it seems like a new car!!

Could it have actually been suffering for the last 100,000 miles or is it just my imagination? - I did not just get it washed, so it can't be the "clean car runs better" old wives tale. Am I crazy??

I havent washed my 95 Jetta in the 27 months since I bought it other than cleaning out the garbage from inseide the car occasionally and it runs great. By the way my habit of not washing my car drives the neighbor across the street from me nuts. He bought a new Chevy Full size pickup (can't remember model) a few months ago and washes that just about every week. Aren't trucks SUPPOSED to be dirty?
