'99 Olds Intrigue battery replacement

I need to replace the battery in my car, but I don't have alot of experience and it seems alittle more in-depth than most batteries. One, there is a metal bar with a wrapped wire attached to it...do I need to remove it? Also, the new battery doesn't have posts in it (side mounted)...how to I get the posts out of the old one. Thank you for any help anyone offers me

There is usually a metal strap that holds the battery down. You can loosen that and remove it from the tray.

You will also have to get the proper post setup from the store. Where did you get this battery? Autozone, Walmart, etc type places will install them at no charge.

Battery Help

Yes you will have to undue that cable from the metal bar. That bar goes over the battery to keep it in place so it does not bounce around over rough terrain or in the event of a roll over. You cannot take the posts off of the battery as they are manufactured as part of the battery. However if you go to your local auto parts store you can buy adapter posts that thread in to the side posts of the new battery. You will need to get a positive and negative as they are slightly differant size posts. Hope fully you have room in the batttery compartment to use them and long enough cabes to reach the new location of the posts.

LOL, ok, so I went back and talked to the GUY, and when I asked for posts he looked at me funny and said that the old one's come out with a 8mm wrench. So, looks like I have a project for tomorrow, and the girl DID know what she was doin!

You would have been dumb not to ask for help about something you didn't know. I'd say you should feel smart for doing the right thing.
