Jeep Transmission Noise

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.0 L with 42,000 miles and an automatic transmission. The problem I'm having is in reverse and neutral, the transmission makes a loud vibrating / humming noise. No other gear makes this noise. Reverse runs fine, just the noise and when I slid under the car, the noise is the loudest right underneath the transmission pan.

I changed the fluid and filter, but this made no difference. Any ideas? Thanks.

Your Jeep should have a 7yr/70k mile drivetrain warranty. Bring it to the stealer and have them check it out. You *may* have to pay a diagnostic fee, but if it's the tranny, you should be covered by warranty.
