new tires odometer problem

Ever since I had new tires put on my 96 Camry the odometer reads 1.65 miles for every mile driven. I didnt notice it at first, but can date it back to the tire replacemnt. The tires are the correct size. Its been like this for nearly 2 years, I cant figure it out. Car is fully depreciated, not worth a pro diagnostic.

Is there a switch somewhere that may have been bumped by the technician? Only thing I can think of is we are recording kilometers now instead of miles. Is that possible?

Thanks

Hey,

I own a 1996 Toyota Camry LE 4cyl engine.
Speedometer is accurate, tire size is correct, odometer ticks 1.65 miles per actual mile driven. Speedometer has readings for both MPH and KPH.

These are checked on a odometer check course along a local highway at 60 mph.

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like it switched over or someone switched it to read kilometers. Owners manual give any instructions on how to change back?

Yeah, 5 miles = 8 kilometers so it does stand to reason that
it's reading kilometers because 1 / 5 x 8 = 1.6

Any one know how to switch it back to read miles? It is a mechanical odometer so there is a mechanical switch somewhere?

Thanks
