98 4.0 Jeep (GC) - odd idle problem

I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the inline 6 - 4.0 L engine.

A while back it would occasionally stumble when I take my foot off the brake from a stop. This is before pressing on the throttle.. the idle would just drop way down and then recover (or maybe by that time I was on the throttle..).

Now, on an equally random time, when I put the Jeep in park.. the idle speed will go fairly high (1500 ?).. I can blip the throttle and it will come back down. Or, if I turn the engine off and restart it, the idle is proper.

Does this sound like a vacuum problem ? I poked around under there and couldn't find anything loose.

Thanks for any tips.;.

Clean the throttle body with a toothbrush and carb cleaner.

I could try that.

I had the body off just after i bought the jeep.. 2 yrs ?.. cant remember why tho (sign of mid 40's comin ?).. but I did have to wait a few day for a gasket to come into the local dealer. I cleaned up the body nice, but it may be dirty again.. havent looked yet.
