2002 Dodge Durango Motor

Does anyone know how much it would cost to replace the motor in a 2002 Dodge Durango? They said it was something bad with the rods, and that I would need a new motor. Does anyone know how much that will cost, or how much a rebuilt motor would cost?

Well, depending on the ENGINE..(not motor) ...$3000-5000 would prob be in the range. Lower range for a local rebuild or junkyard ..upper end for a Pro rebuild with warranty. Thats for replacement..not rebuilding yours. Could be more each way.

You need more info on whats actually the problem.

Sorry about the engine vs motor thing...motors are electric...engines use fuel and air...must be my training coming back.

Engine making a loud knocking?

From Jasper $2900 for the 6 cylinder, $4300 for the 8 cyl. ; 3 yr/100,000 mi warranty. Plus installation costs.

Have to decide how much the truck is worth after the repair regardless of where the motor comes from. [Used "motor" just to p.o. Guns; in my airplane fixing days - I was a power plants mechanic - we used to interchange the terms].

Gunguy quiz: What do you call the parts under the hood that hold the main component of the power train down; motor mounts or engine mounts? Hmmmmm.

I call those things a PITA, exp when you have to loosen one and jack the engine over just to change an accessory belt.

Glad to see I was close on the pricing..course thats not including labor is it......

If it is a rod knock -by disconnecting each plug wire, one at a time, the rod that is knocking will be the one whose plug wire removed now causes the knock to quiet down.

Do you feel the engine is a lemon by no fault of your own? Or was this perhaps caused by forgetting to add oil?, or change the oil?, or not noticing that the engine was running too hot?( and then this thinned the oil way down or caused some distortion.)
