Question Car runs rough but only sometimes. HELP!

I have an 89 celebrity, 2.8 FI, has a hard time starting in the morning, have to try about 10 times before itll start. Runs a little rough til it warms up then runs fine and starts fine until I have driven it on my mail route about 30 minutes, then if i turn it off and wait about 30 minutes, when it starts, It has no power and I have to pump the gas to get it to run, if i floor it, it just stalls, I have to pump it and slowly eek up to about 40mph, and after it runs like that for about 1 minute, it runs fine the rest of the time, until I let it sit for 20-30 minutes then it does the same thing. I replaced 2 of the 3 coil packs and the fuel filter was completely clogged but I changed it. I never had this problem until it started getting warm out... Could it be the fuel pump or the last remaining coil pack or something else!?!? Ive avoided changing the last coil pack because it is a PAIN to get off! HELP!

Certainly the last coil pack would give you a full deck. Pumping the accelerator only throws all the electronics out of whack and could cause flooding, taking the extra time to burn off the excess fuel you have pumped into the chambers. After finding the fuel filter clogged, I would definitely change fuel suppliers. That's the only place you can get the gunk you found. I would also have the fuel pump checked out/replaced. It sounds as if it is starving for fuel.

I will put money on coolant temp sensor.. as if its faulty it wont be for certain a code being sent but it will think its always warm so when you start when its cold it will start lean causing not enough fuel to enter the engine causing you have to pump gas to get it to run.. they are cheap about 15$ and easy to change.. I put my money on it

I had a 88 Olds ciera 2.8 that would run bad because of a faulty egr valve. I believe its on the L/S of the motor near the back. The diaphram should not move when you step on the gas pedal, if it does it needs to be cleaned. Might be worth a look before you spend any more money and change the other coil pack.

btw your symptoms are not of an egr.. as you say its rough when it starts but ok when it warms... egr will act differently as it can give similar symptoms but egr generally is opposite as it warms it gets worse rather than better

HEET or fuel conditioner?

Is this car driven much? How often do you fuel up? Yes, yes, it's the "old gas" suggestion. As gas ages it accumulates moisture, in proportion to weather conditions. And causes sporadic operation. Of course, fuel filter having been clogged is also a factor.
What the heck there's my two cents.

Maybe you should try to unplug the coolant sensor.
