Water on Passenger Side Floor

2000 Taurus LX 125,000

After heavy rain, water accumulates on the floor of the passenger side. On further inspection, source of the water is the blower motor. The only time water accumulates in the blower motor is after heavy rain, not during of after A/C use.

I suspect there is a leak allowing rain water into the blower motor, somehow. Any ideas where to look or how to further diagnose/repair?

Thanks!

Open the hood, Remove the windshield wipers, and the plastic cowl........

Now pick all the leaves out of the corners of the fenders.

There are drains in the corners that channel the water out. If the water is allowed to "POOL -UP" then yes, it will leak into the blower housing, since this is where the fresh air for your heater and A/C comes from.

I believe there is a TSB dealing with leaks as you describe. My daughters Taurus had same and after pushing they covered the repair bill where the work had been done at another shop. Has to be really bad when they will pay for work done by an independent.

The 125,000 puts you out of warranty, but the TSB, if it applies will point out the fix. I think it was a kit of plastic parts and tape, possibly the same area Unclediezel is directing you to.

My repair manual lists TSBs up until 2003. I didn't see one about water on the floor or any related item> Any idea where I can find the TSB concerning my problem?

ford has redesigned the cowl cover. once water sits in the blower it's
not long before the blower shorts out. had it happen to me.
the cowl is higher on the edges.
no need to remove wipers i just turned them on and shut the car so they were sitting straight up on the windshield.

while your at it make sure to replace the cabin air filter.
