Serpentine Belt
How many guys/girls on here clean out the grooves on their serpentine belts for maintenance. There's always sand grit in there to wear out the pulleys and the belt.

I don't clean the grooves out, but whenever I do a routine maintenance changeout of the belt, I put the old one behind the seat of my truck in case I break the one I didn't clean the grooves out on.

Actually I never thought of it. My boy and I were putting a timing belt in his car and I tossed him the belts to wipe off. He was looking at them and asked if he should clean the sand out of them.
There was a fair amount of sand and grit stuck down in the grooves of the belt.

Never heard of this problem before. Most serp belts are routed to go inside out at some point which should spin out the dirt and water.
