They make the workings of the distributor better these days I think. I have had no reason to work on one for years and years. But thinking from the old school, you cannot have steady 12 volt current at all coil wires when distributor turns. At least one of those wires has to drop down in voltage when distributor is at the dwell that causes any one plug to fire. The current drops and this builds high voltage currnet in the secondary winding in the coil to 20,000 or so volts, to be able to cause a big enough spark to jump a plug gap.
You may have a faulty hall-effect pickup coil inside the distributor, perhaps. These are easily replaceable, under the cap. Maybe you could take chance and get one and/or discuss at junk yard. Your call.
