Chrome Wheels

I recently purchased a 2000 Chrysler 300m. This vehicle is in excellent shape with the exception of the wheels. They are chrome but are almost black with brake dust and road grime. I have tried most of the wheel cleaners available at the auto store but with bad results. Is there any hints you can think of that I can try to shine these wheels. Thank you in advance.

I have never done this myself but have heard from a few people over the years this is quite effective, not sure about chrome though. Jack the vehicle up and put it on jackstands. Take off the wheels and put them on a blanket or something that you do not care about (i.e. not the blanket from your bed LOL). Spray the wheels with EZ OFF oven cleaner, but do try to avoid getting the spray on the rubber. The brake dust supposedly comes right off. After the wheels are clean, spray them with cooking spray. This way the dust will just wipe off from what I heard. I hope this helps. It isn't every day you go to the grocery store for working on a car is it?

I found that most of the cleaners for chrome wheels (no acid) are no more effective than straight Krud Kutter or Simple Green. Of course you can't just spray and rinse (like they say you can), you need to use a wheel brush, stiff parts brush, non-abrasive scrubbing pad, toothbrush..whatever works. May take more than one scub and rinse cycle. If you want to try to get the inside/underbody side of the rim clean like new, plan on using something like steel wool/SOS pads
