1996 Dodge Ram brakes

Hello,

I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 with drum brakes in the rear. My driveway is at about a 15 degree slant. I pull in uphill and back out downhill.

When I start my truck I put my foot on the brake and shift to reverse. Then I take my foot off the brake and let her roll backwards. When I depress the brake wihile going backwards there is a clunk in the passenger side rear drum brake.

Then the pedal goes down and and the brakes kind of act like the ABS kicked in...'grab/slip, grab/slip.

Then i can put it in drive and once I pump the brakes up, I'm good to go.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening to the rear drum??

Any help is appreciated.

Trip

I would think that one of the shoe anchor pins are bent or missing.
braking while going forward the servo action will help keep everything where it should be and tight up against the slave pistion rod
But bacward it would be pullin away from the slave rod and pop back near to original position by spring action.

I would pop the drum off and take a look

I had the same thing happen in my shop to me aprox a week after a 4 wheel brake job on the same year and make truck. In this case the auto adjuster pin between the lower parts of the shoes broke. As mentioned before you'll have to pull the drum off and take a look. Good luck
