How do you replace an altenator in 97 Ford Explorer

Is replacing the altenator in a 97 Ford Explorer easy to do? ie. Can I do this myself? If so, can someone tell me step-by-step what I'll need to do? Any info/help is greatly appreciated.

You can just go to the Autozone website, register, and look up your explorer/replacing alternator. It normally has all the information you would need.

I've been following your previous threads about the low battery, ignition key not turning, etc, and I was wondering if you've had your alternator tested to make sure its bad? Just replacing it because someone suggested it might be bad without knowing for sure is an expensive experiment. Many auto stores can test your battery and alternator voltage for free if you take your vehicle in to them. If you do have to buy a rebuilt alternator, make sure you get the best quality you can afford, as some rebuilts aren't worth the trouble it takes to install them.
