Gear selector position center console light replacement

Hi;
Car; 1994 Toyota Corrolla 1.6 FE basic model, Automatic transmission with gear selector in a center floor console with arm rest.

Driving home the other night and the center console gear selector light went out. Kind of hard to see what gear I am in.
Before I tear the car apart, what is the proper way to replace the bulb that illuminates the gear selector position on the center console..

On my daughter's '97 ford escort, you remove the screws that hold the plastic console down, then slide the console up as far as you can on the shift lever. You may have to remove the handle on top of the lever to get enough clearance. The bulb is pretty easy to get to at that point. You may have to rotate the clear plastic piece with the "PRNDL" lettering on it. I can't remember if the bulb is under that or beside it. I would assume that all smaller cars with center console shifting are about the same setup. Good luck.

It may be easier to just count the click for each gear.
