1998 CAVALIER Z24 Engine swap
I have a 1998 CAVALIER Z24 with a 2.4 5 speed Both motor and tranny are shot Trying to find a salvage car with same engine and low miles is dam near impossible Was wondering if a 2.2 with its own 5 speed tranny from another cavalier would bolt in and work? Would I have to change computer? ect? I would have salvage car for parts if needed Would cv's fit?

If you are more concerned with replacing the engine/transmission than having a salvage car, your local used auto parts recycler might have a national parts locator so the engine/transmission could be shipped to them for you to pick up. If you want to skip a step, check out www.uneedapart.com. This site will ask you to type in what you need and then yards from all over the country will email you if they have the parts with prices. The shipping costs may be a nightmare though. Good luck with it.

Gotcha!! Right now my car is at the point of hoping it lasts long enough for me to get another car and be able to drive this one into the savage yard. Only problem with my car for your purpose is that mine is a VW and the last I checked they are as compatible as apples and oranges.

No expert...but doesn't look like any real changes between those years. And knowing GM back in those days..it was probably not much more than minor body changes.
Can you get engine and trans numbers..or heck..just go eyeball it..you should be able to tell with a few measurements.
